MEN OF COLOR TO ARMS!
THats the book that i just finished by ELIZABETH D. LEONARD its a book about black soldiers contribution during and after the civil war. The one thing that i didn't know was how large the role of black soldiers during the wars with the Indian nation, they really played a huge part in the demise and defeat of the Indians something I'm not really proud of since I'm part-Indian. man those soldiers really endured some hard ships and some really harsh conditions, i look at the situation I'm in now and there's no comparison, not even close. The book talks a lot about my hero FREDERICK DOUGLAS and how he traveled to the white house in 1863 to persuade pres. LINCOLN to let blacks serve in the union army and fight the confederates, he finally relented but black soldiers would not be paid the same as white soldiers in fact they were paid less than half, the presidents reasoned that black soldiers should be happy just to serve. wow! I really learned a lot reading this book which is my goal. now I'm starting on a book called 'up from history' about the life of BOOKER T. WASHINGTON i don't know enough about this important figure in American history and I'm gonna learn with this book. gotta go study got mid-term exam tonight!!
